05 JULY DREE FESTIVAL (ARUNACHAL PRADESH)
The Apatani Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh celebrates the Dree Festival for a bountiful harvest season. This three-day-long agricultural festival celebrated in the Ziro District is replete with sacrificial offerings and prayers. During the festival, devotees offer numerous sacrifices, and they also pray to the four Gods: Tamu, Metii, Danyi, and Harniang. While Tami is worshipped for the protection of their plants from harmful pests and insects, Metii is worshipped for protection against famines and epidemics. The deity Danyi is offered prayers for the protection and prosperity of mankind, and Harniang is worshipped to ensure the soil is fertile and that no paddy plant goes dry. Dance, music, and other cultural programmes are the other highlights of this festival.
