27 October – K R Narayanan
Kocheril Raman Narayanan’s birth date has been officially listed as 27 October 1920. Born at Uzhavoor in Kerala, he hailed from a backward community. He was sworn in as the 10 th President of India on 25 July 1997. K R Narayanan’s life is replete with accomplishments as a journalist, diplomat, and politician. In 1948 he joined the Indian Foreign Service and served as India’s ambassador to Japan, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Turkey, China, and the United States. Known for his assertive and independent mind, he has the honour of being the first Indian President to vote when in office. K R Narayanan passed away on 9 November 2005 at the age of 85.
