ich description
The Bauls or the fakirs of Bengal follow the discourse of music, philosophy, and performance. The Bauls do not revere class, caste, or religion and often flout the norms of society with their divinity and spirituality through music. Many of the Baul-gans have had a profound influence on other forms of music. Closely associated with the Baul sangeet is the Bhatiali music, whose rhythm has often won over many classical musicians. Classical musicians have found a way to render the sounds of the ektara or dotara in their improvisations. Rabindranath Tagore has drawn on the Baul maestro Lalon Fakir’s lyrics, philosophy, and music in many of his songs. More recently, Baul songs have been performed by fusion bands and experimental musicians.
