ich description

The audio recording is from the Sangeet Natak Akademi archives. In the audio recording, Radhika Mohan Moitra plays the sarod in the Bageshri Raga of the Kafi thata. In the performance, all the vistaras and tanas are executed by the maestro with finesse and grandeur, thus bringing out the whole mood of the raga. The piece was performed in 1957, with Alla Rakha and Karamatullah Khan accompanying on the tabla. Radhika Mohan Moitra (1917-1984), or Radhu-babu as he was widely known, was born in the Rajshahi district of the then East Bengal. He was initially trained in the sarod and sursingar by Mohammed Amir Khan of the Shahjahanpur gharana and later by Mohammed Dabir Khan of the Senia gharana. He thus combined the Shahjahanpur and the Senia gharana and composed a new style of music.
