Description: In the present paper discussed about the comparative study of traditional and modern Indian theatre. In India traditional theatre forms like Yakshagana, Terukuttu, Ankia Nat, Jatra, Tarnasha, Bhavai, Rasleela, Khyal, Swang, etc. was based on the historical and cultural stories, but after 19th century Indian theatre started influenced from Western literature and theatre, dramatic writing started in all the modern Indian languages and it based on meaning and purpose of life, struggle for political power, violence in social and personal behavior, breakdown of the family and emerging patterns of man-woman relationship, conflict between classes and communities.
