Sundari is a wind instrument made of Sheesham and wood. This rare instrument is found in Maharashtra. This double reed instrument is mostly confined to the Jadhav family of the Aherwadi region in the Solapur district.

Material: Shisham, Wood

A double reed wind instrument. The windpipe has 7-9 finger holes. Blown through the reed while the tone is adjusted with the finger holes. Sundari is an extension of Shehnai which gives it a popular name of the ‘younger sister of Shehnai’. The wood of Palmyra trees is considered to be the best for making this instrument. The sound is more soft as compared to the Shehnai. This is a rare instrument, mostly confined to the Jadhav family of Aherwadi region in Solapur district.
