26 JULY KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July every year to mark the anniversary of its successful operation dubbed ‘Operation Vijay’ in 1999. The victory came after more than 60 days of intense armed conflict on the snowy peaks of Kargil in Ladakh. On 03 May 1999, the Indian troops took on the intruders in the treacherous Kargil-Drass region, ousted them, and regained control of the high outposts in this area. Kargil Vijay Diwas is marked by various ceremonies and events across India, particularly at the war memorials in Dras and New Delhi, where tributes are paid to the soldiers who laid down their lives. The day serves as a reminder of the courage, determination, and patriotism of the Indian military. On Kargil Vijay Diwas a grateful nation remembers the fearless soldiers who guarded India’s borders in Operation Vijay.
