The Diary of Mahadev Desai

Mahadev Desai was born on 1st January 1892, in the village of Saras in Gujarat's Surat district. We can better understand Mahatma Gandhi by taking a look at Mahadev Desai's diaries. From 1917 till his passing in 1942, Mahadev Desai served as Gandhi's private secretary.  His diaries are regarded as a gold mine of information since they provide unique access to the whole campaign for India's liberation movement as well as other important events. Mahadev not only stayed with Gandhi but also thoroughly fused with him. He started keeping a journal on November 1917 and wrote in it every day until his death on 14th August 1942.

His public relations were top-notch. He served as Gandhi's forerunner in terms of ideas and endeavours. Mahadev's arduous duty was to meticulously describe all of Mahatma Gandhi's actions in the twenty volumes of his diary that have been made available so far. He had achieved master builder status without even the slightest hint of conceit. Mahadev without Gandhi or Gandhi without Mahadev is a tough concept to grasp. Without the other, one was incomplete.
