Issue Date: 2002

Publisher: Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi

Description: Khyal gayaki today is the most popular form of Hindustani classical vocal music, though it is not so old as the Dhruvapada genre. However, my purpose here is aesthetic, not historical. It is to bring out the most distinctive artistic feature of this particular style of singing. This is why have chosen to write on those melodic figuration's which are commonly known as tanas and which distinguish this form of North Indian music.
