Description: This book holds the honour of being the first dictionary of the Bihari language to be ever written. It was compiled by A.F. Rudolf Hoernle and George A Grierson, members of the Bengal education and civil service respectively, under the patronage of the then Government of Bengal. Its introduction gives context by explaining the grammar of the Bihari language such as the use of adjectives, their feminine and masculine gender, nouns, articles, meaning and utility of ‘tatsam’ and ‘tadbhava’ etc. The latter half of the book contains numerous Bihari words with their English language meanings.
